The wind died down a
bit during the night but the rain continued and the whole area
around was completely waterlogged. Water was flowing through the
tent but thankfully the integral ground sheet for the inner tent was
watertight. It’s a good job this is my last day as the bent pole
won’t last another night and most of my gear is wet. I packed the
tent up and was on my way by 7:20am virtually wading through the
wide mass of water that was running down to the path below.
A very wet pitch in Stone Cove.
View across Buttermere and Crummock
Water.
The rain had almost
stopped as I headed north along the path. After a mile the cloud
began to clear a bit and I was able to get some views across
Buttermere. The final descent to Honister Hause was relatively calm
and I reached the Youth Hostel dry for a change. It was about 9am
when I got there and I had almost an hour to wait before the bus
arrived. I took the clockwise route to Keswick which meant I
travelled along Buttermere, Crummock and over Whinlatter Pass. I
popped in to Needle Sports to buy some tent pegs then caught the 555
bus to Lancaster where I got he train back to Preston then the bus
from Preston home.
