I completed final loading of the car and set off before 7am.
My plan is to drive to the Scotlan to do some walking. After an
easy drive I topped up with fuel at Perth then north on the A9
and on to Rannoch Railway Station. The last time I was here was
on the bike when I took the train from Glasgow and got off at
the station to start a cross Scotland bike ride. Today I am
heading up Meall Liath na Doire to the NW. I left my car in the
station car park and walked across the level crossing and along
the track heading towards the loch.

Shortly after reaching the pine woods I turned right up a track
heading up the hillside. Once above the tree line I had nice
views of the surrounding views even though it was cloudy and
overcast. 20 mile in the distance was the distinctive profile of
Schiehallion. At the end of the track I was pleasantly surprised
to see a quad bike track heading up to the summit roughly along
the route I’d planned to take. As the gradient eased there
seemed to be two possible high points. |

I headed for a stone cairn but a large boulder to the south
could also have been as a high point so I headed for it. All
signs of a track had now vanished so I had to negotiate my way
across rough ground. I was heading for a gap in the pine woods
below and when I reached it there was another quad track that
made the descent to the main track relatively easy. I followed
the track back to the car then walked over the footbridge to
have a look at Rannoch Railway Station. It was nearly 5pm and
the cafe seemed to be closed. However there was a room open and
an honesty box in the corner along with a kettle for anyone
wanting to make their own hot drink. |

I left the station to drive back to Kinloch Rannoch with the
intention of staying the night on the Schiehallion Rd. There
were road closed signs when I got there as they were filming so
I got as far as Lassintullich where I stopped for the night.
