I reached the small lay-bye at Wanthwaite Bridge and set off
back along the road the way I’d come. Work was continuing on the
old property by the bridge and large wagons were delivering
materials as I passed. One was a huge load of breeze blocks. At
the main road junction I turned left to head north towards
Threlkeld. |

This is the first outing with my new Sony camera and I found its
long zoom very handy to photograph name signs and date stones.
There was no footpath and it was uncomfortable with lots of
traffic and large lorries. I was glad to reach the site of the
old railway bridge and leave the road to join the path along the
route of the old railway. At first I passed the car park of the
Lake District National Park Office and several vehicles were
plugged in to electric charging points. |

The path was narrow but easy going then opened up to follow
between an avenue of trees. At first Blencathra was in shade but
eventually the sun reached it. The cold however continued and as
I walked up by the isolated property of Newsham it was still
only around 3degC. Through the gate I found some shelter to stop
and have my butties for an early lunch. |

I continued up the pathless hillside to reach the Old Coach
Road. I turned right ro head SW and generally downhill. A
mountain bike cyclist came up as I descended. There was some
nice light in the pines where the old mineral railway line used
to service the quarries. I reached the road then the short walk
back to my car. |
