I needed an early start to get off the fell to catch the bus. I didn’t know what train services would be running from Windermere because of the train crash at Greyrigg, north of Oxenholme. There was a bit of rain overnight but the main change was the wind. It had got stronger and packing the tent up in the wind and dark was quite tricky. It was a bit after 6am when I set off and had to take it very carefully over the dark, wet and slippery rocks on the trail. I could see the lights of Grasmere in the distance but the path followed a fairly winding route and there were a few paths to choose from. I found the correct path down to Grasmere and arrived in plenty of time for the first bus. to Windermere railway station. Because of the rail crash there were no trains north on Lancaster so I caught the bus all the way to Lancaster and caught the train there.

Early morning approach to Grasmere.
