As I started to pack up camp a farmers
vehicle drove up into the field and on the way back to the road
noticed my tent and stopped briefly before continuing back to the
road. I was away by 07:30 and heading along a dead flat road to
Wrangle where I joined the A52 which fortunately wasn’t too busy. |

I soon left it for the minor lanes to
head through Friskney and on to Wainfleet where I saw the Brewery
building and old windmill without sails. Leaving to the north I
stopped briefly opposite Primrose Farm to buy some asparagus for £2
from a road side stall in an outhouse. I continued along minor lanes
to the A158 to head into Skegness. |

I stopped at a shop to buy a bit of
food then continued into Skegness. I didn’t go straight to the
railway station as I wanted a ride round the town to see what it was
like I didn’t see anything of interest and got to the railway
station earlier than planned. There was a blue plaque on the station
wall to John Hassall (1868 - 1948) who was the artist who created
the Jolly Fisherman painting for the Great Northern Railway Company
in 1908 with the ‘Skegness is so Bracing’ motif. I left on the
10:15am train to Nottingham where I changed for the Manchester
Oxford Road station. Luckily I didn’t have long to wait for the
Chorley train which left from the same platform. |
