A calm night but a lot of condensation
on the tent. During a slightly hazy sunrise I watched a huge super
tanker being moved up the river surrounded by 3 tugs. I set off
before 9am to return to the car park then access road back to the
main A178 road where I turned north towards Hartlepool. I didn’t
have far to go so took my time enjoying the scenery.

As the road wasn’t too wide I kept to
the pavement wherever possible. Into Hartlepool the roads were
fairly quiet as I rode up to the Railway Station. I parked my bike
outside while walking inside to buy a ticket. A single to Blackburn
was £30.25. The waiting room was surprisingly full and quite a lot
of people were filling the platform as I wheeled my bike in.

Hartlepool Railway Station
I was waiting for the 08:56 to York
and asked a man why the station was so busy. He said it was always
busy this time on a Saturday morning but a lot of people were also
going to the York horseracing. The train was on time but being
‘Grand Central’ company there wasn’t a designated bicycle carriage.
I had to wheel my bike to the front and stand with it at the end of
the corridor.

When the ticket inspector
arrived she said she didn’t have a key to let the bike in the
baggage section. I stood the whole way along with a group of young
men who were heading for the day at the races. I got off at Youk and
fortunately the next train I needed to catch to Blackburn was from a
platform that I could easily wheel my bike to. It was the 10:27 to
Blackpool which left on time. It was pleasant ride and I enjoyed
sitting back and watching the countryside go by. Back in Blackburn I
had an easy ride home.
