I didn’t have far to ride today as I’m heading for Edinburgh
Waverley Railway Station and the train home. I couldn’t go for an
early start anyway as I was restricted to the falling tide. I was
treated to a nice sunny morning as I packed my tent away then
wheeled my bike down to the shore.
Returning to the mainland
The concrete causeway was already exposed when I arrived so I cycled
part way across and wheeled it the last bit as the concrete was wet
and slippery. Back up on the main concrete promenade I set off to
cycle east. I was a lovely ride in the sunshine and it was good to
see many people out walking and cycling in the beautiful
surroundings. The easy riding ended when I reached the main road at
West Shore Road just over 2 miles later.
The barrier under construction

I
wasn’t on it long before turning right to fillow a cycle track along
the old railway. There was a new development and interesting art
stratue at a building called 55deg North. I checked my gps and found
it was at 55.98degNorth so not sure why they called it that. Further
on the cycle track was by the busy road with commuter traffic. It
then left to re-join the old railway and a much quieter route.

I soon reached the cycle track coming in from the west which
is a route I’ve used before when riding in from Hound Point. The
cycle track then continued south to the road near Haymarket Railway
Station. I continued through the streets of Edinburgh to Princes
Street and the Royal Scottish Academy Building. I had plenty of time
to kill so sat around for a while then moved to the lower grassy
area of East Princes Street Gardens.

Emotional Baggage at £35
I’d previously bought a £18.50
ticket and cycle reservation on the Virgin 14:52 train to Preston
which set off on time. It was a lovely sunny day for the ride and I
looked enviously out of the window approaching Cumbria and the
mountains in sunshine. We arrived in Preston on time at 17:15 where
I rode on along the cycle tracks to Bamber Bridge then the A6 home.
