IThere was hardly a breath of wind during the night but the rain continued. The cloud still hung around but I wasn't going to waste another day waiting for things to get better. I decided to move on to Kirk Fell whatever the weather so by 8:20am I was packed up and on my way. Thankfully the rain was now nothing more than light drizzle. I made sure my compass was round my neck and available for spot checks. I soon found the path and headed slightly downhill towards stone cove. The path undulated slightly but I still couldn't see anything through the mist. I crossed the infant River Liza then the path started to climb steadily upwards. There was still a constant drizzle but it was quite warm making things uncomfortable under my waterproofs.

A very Misty Kirk Fell Summit.

It was interesting descending to Beck Head and seeing the two tarns almost full of water again. I came by here last month and both were completely dry. I set off up the steep path towards Kirk Fell summit. The going was fairly straightforward but I couldn't see the plastic flower memorial I saw the last time was here. At the summit cairn I decided to search for a suitable pitch. It was still very misty and I couldn't even see Kirkfell Tarn which is where I planned to collect water. There was only a slight breeze but stronger winds were forecast so I had to find somewhere with shelter. I found what looked like an unsuitable patch of ground but it turned out to be a good pitch. I set off to get water but had to use my compass to find the tarn. The return to the tent was easier.
