The night was surprisingly calm considering my exposed camp just off the summit of Weather Ling Hill. My tent door looked out to where the sun would rise but the haze and cloud was still about so all I saw was a faint cherry glow in the distance. I didn’t hang around but had breakfast and packed up camp. I was on my way by 6:15am and firstly retraced my steps back up to the wall where I crossed over to the path on the other side. I had a long sweeping view down Long Bank, Brown Knott and Holme Knott which was my descent route.

Abbot Holme Bridge.

With a bus to catch in Sedbergh I had no idea how long it would take me to get there so I didn’t hang about and kept up a fairly brisk pace. Descending Holme Fell to the minor road I came across a couple of what looked like ancient settlements but there was nothing shown on the map. I followed the road through a gate and down to the buildings at Abbot Holme then over the narrow bridge. At Catholes I passed the Sedbergh Gold Club buildings then on to the larger road that took me to Millthrop.

Continuing over the bridge I was soon in Sedbergh with plenty of time for the bus. I wandered along the main street and noticed Ellie’s Bakery and Tearoom was open so I called in for a pot of tea and some cakes. It was a very enjoyable way to pass the time before wandering to the bus stop by the library. The bus took me to Oxenholme where I caught the direct train to Chorley.
