After doing a slide show in Salford I drove home to catch the bus to Chorley and catch the 12:44 Edinburgh train to Oxenholme. I was now in the lottery that is the railway timetable system. I'd got there in good time but the first two trains were running very late and were even late for the delayed arrival time shown on the board. For a while my train was supposed to be arriving on time but it was 8mins late. My concern was that the bus connection time was just 10mins. We reached Oxenholme with 2mins to my bus so I ran as best I could in full pack to the bus stop and made it with 20seconds to spare. Typical, the bus was 5mins late. I caught it to Sedbergh and it was nice to see that it was almost full. Most were women with bags so I suspect they'd been shopping in Kendal and were now returning home. I got off opposite the library and set off up Howgill lane at 14:15.

First camp above Sedbergh

Evening view from the tent.

There was low cloud but it was calm and dry. I hadn't planned on walking far, just up the fell to get a good view and about half way up the climb. Through Lockbank Farm I took the main path then steeply up the green path towards the east side of Winder. I found a flat spot with water nearby and camped. Later in the evening the valley filled with mist and it was illuminated from the inside by the streetlights below.
