I’m heading for the
train home today so didn’t hang around when the alarm went. Outside
it was raining and was still raining as I packed up and set off
wheeling my bike through the long wet grass. Back at the bay side
road I cycled up to Skateraw and turned left back to the A1. For
about three and a half miles I had to endure the busy traffic then
thankfully reached the A1087 into Dunbar. It was approaching 07:30am
and the town was still relatively quiet. I reached the Railway
Station but that was quite busy with many commuters waiting for the
train to Edinburgh. I bought at £4.75 ticket and wheeled my bike
onto the platform in the rain. The first train in was the 07:42 East
Coast Newcastle to Edinburgh. It’s the first train I’ve been on in
many years where my bike had to go in the Guards van at the back of
the train. It made a lot of sense as there was plenty of room. I
climbed into the next carriage door which turned out to be a first
class carriage. My journey was only going to be 25min so I waited
with a couple of other commuters by the doors. An added bonus was a
pile of Guardian newspapers that the other men began to read. At a
pound each they appear to be included in the first class ticket. I
began to read one as well. In Edinburgh I had a long wait for the
09:51am First Transpennine train to Manchester Airport. It was a
direct service so I reached Chorley after a pleasant ride.
