Most of the night the sky was clear
and the temperature dropped to just below freezing. I had to set off
fairly early to catch the train at Dunbar for Edinburgh. I was away
by 06:50am and retraced my route back to the A1. It was still very
dark with no lights on the A1.
Dunbar Railway Station
It was uncomfortable riding with large
lorries passing at speed and no cycle track. I had to endure it for
almost 3 miles before I left it for the almost deserted A1087. I
reached the Dunbar Railway Station and bought a £5 single ticket for
Edinburgh. I also managed to get a cycle reservation on the 07:43am
train. I was here last on 25 Sep 2013 with my bike and like then the
place was filling with commuters. The train arrived on time and
after putting my bike in the guards van I climbed on board to stand
at the end of the first class carriage. In Sept. I’d chatted to one
of the commuters and the same man was here today. He was called
Peter.

As the refreshment lady arrived from
the first class section I was given a banana and also collected a
newspaper. They were very much appreciated, though I hope the rail
company don’t read this. In Edinburgh I had to wait to catch the
10:08 to Preston. It was a very pleasant ride through the Scottish
Borders. At Preston I cycled home.
