I wasn’t in a rush today as the end of
the walk was only a descent of about 4 miles. The wind had continued
through the night and thick mist greeted me as I emerged from the
tent. I decided to stay put and read to avoid the wedding which I
think is due at about 11:30ish. I packed up camp in the early
afternoon and had be very careful as the wind was as fierce as ever
and I didn’t want to lose the tent. I descended to the north and
joined the main path which is yet another version of the Pennine
Way. I turned left (west) and started down the path towards Kirkland
(which isn’t the Penning Way) and soon came to the large areas of
man made gullies and spoil heaps indicting a very busy industrial
past.
Misty camp on Cross Fell
A few people were coming up the path,
I think it was 4, by the time I reached the road at Kirkland. There
were quite a few cars parked so I would have expected to have seen
more people.
