Drove to Brinscall for 10:30am to another of David Clayton’s guided walk around the ruined farms on the moors. Walked via Twist Moor Lane, Roddlesworth Lane then across paths to Aushaws then detailed look at Grouse Cottage and up to the flat area of Scott Hall, The Oaks, Tower View, and Popes. On the way back we passed the site of Dale Fold, or Deal fold on the old maps, where no evidence reamains of the houses that were there. Even on the 1894 map it had been obliterated.

Dale Fold or Deal Fold, nothing now remains.

A cold calm morning on Coniston Water

Cycling through Orton I stopped to take this photo of the old Liberal Club building

Orton Liberal Club 1888

Cycling to Tebay I saw these men rebuilding the dry stone wall by the road

South of Tebay is a short branch off the main road to the old bridge. It is the cut off length of the old road. At the end is a memorial to four railway workers who were killed in 2004 when a runway bogey hit them while they were working. The memorial reads:

In memory of
Colin Buckley  49
Darreb Burgess  30
Gary Tindall  46
Chris Waters  53
Who were tragically killed nearby on
15th February 2004

This afternoon called in to St James' Church Tebay to look at the exhibition about the history of the railway in the area.

Caught the first bus to Preston and arrived just after 6am. It was misty as I walked across town to the Railway Station where I caught the 06:54 to London Euston. In spite of being in carriage A, the quiet carriage, I had a noisy man sat next to me who played with his mobile phone all the way to London. Not talking in to it but playing games on it then playing music on headphones.

in the early morning gloom.

The problem with loud music on headphones is they make the most annoying sound to those close by. In London the sun was shining and I had an enjoyable walk along Euston Rd and Tottenham Court Road. I stopped in a photographic shop on the way who still sold second hand film cameras. I turned right in to Oxford street then searched out Soho Square to take a few photos.

It was then called King's Square.

Then to 79 Beak St and the Riflemakers Gallery which is in the old premises of John Wilkes Gunmaker. It is referred to by the Wall St Journal as "London's funkiest gallery space". The exhibition I went to see was ‘ANALOG - The End of Professional Photographic Darkrooms’ with prints by Richard Nicholson. I saw a similar exhibition in Jan 2010 of his prints. This wasn’t as big but in a very interesting building which dates back to 1712.

Afterwards I walked to Golden Square then to have a look at Carnaby Street which I haven’t visited since 1968. Today it isn’t even a pale shadow of its former self. Few people were about and the shops had nothing special in them. In ’68 the place was buzzing with people, colour and energy. It was pleasant wandering about just taking occasional snaps.

Chorley Old Rd (B6226) above Horwich. Road works that look like sheet piling has been put in to prevent subsidence.

This afternoon I walked to the site of the old Clayton Reservoir on Back Lane Clayton-le-Woods. The view above is taken while standing on the roof of the reservoir, the green vents are the only indicators of a structure beneath. The picture on the right was taken inside the reservoir in 1980 from a point directly where I was standing.

It was a nice sunny day for a trip out. On the right is the flag and pole on Clitheroe Castle. Below is the view of Pendle taken from the Nick-o-Pendle road in the low sunshine.

I was in Chorley in the early evening so decided to try some wide view photos, stitching several pictures together.

I walked to the junction of Union St and Park Rd to take this photo of the Parish Church of St Laurence. This picture is a merge of 12 separate images.

I like this time of year because there are no leaves on the trees and much more of the countryside can be seen. These old trees were near Naddle Farm, Cumbria.

This morning I drove to Grasmere with my bicycle in the car then cycled in pouring rain to Ambleside and Ghyllside Cycles to pick up a set of brake levers I'd ordered. Then I rode to Chapel Stile to eat my butties, sheltering from the rain in the bus stop shelter.

Today was the Christmas period family meal at my house. To make sure the vegetables were as fresh as possible I tried to buy them all this morning. I went to Asda but found that they didn't have a single sprout for sale! So off to the new Tesco store on Buckshaw were they had plenty.

The first pictures on 2011. I was camped on Hurst Hill above White Coppice and took the firework displays just after midnight
