There had been fires over the moors for the last
couple of days. While cycling over from Rivington to Belmont I
stopped to photograph the fire appliances at the summit car
park. |

I reached Cross Fell and pitched my tent. This sunset was taken
from the tent door. |

reached High Cup Nick and started to look for somewhere to pitch
my tent. This wide view is from the Nick looking west. |

After bolting
down Mum's memorial bench yesterday I returned to clean the
surplus mortar off the base. The wide view below shows the bench
and the rest of the Withnell Fold Memorial garden. As I walked
home I had a quick look in Miller Wood to see the wonderful
carpets of bluebells. They can always be relied on to provide a
great show. |

With trailer in
tow drove to Dean’s for 12:30 then we took Mum’s memorial bench
down to the Memorial Garden in Withnell Fold. Steve and Jill
came at 1pm to help out.
I’d previously concreted in three courses of brickwork below
ground and all we needed to do was drill 4 holes for the
securing bolts for the bench. I’d overestimated the capacity of
my batter drill and the battery was discharged long before we’d
finished. Dean’s drill went the same way. Jill went back to get
Pete’s drill, which didn’t do much better. Fortunately Dean’s
friend Baz had a generator so with that and Dean’s mains drill
we had the holes completed in no time. The bench is now bolted
down. |

job. |

| The Good Friday warm weather had
brought people out and it was nice to watch the colourful barges
passing through the locks at Town Lane, Whittle-le-Woods. |

| We entered Petra
from the desert path and avoided the main tourist route. The
first structure we saw was Ad-Dayr, generally know as 'the
Monastery'. It dates from c100BC and is 50m high. |
 |
 |
| probably the most
famous structure in Petra is Al-Khazned Farun 'The Treasury'
dating from 80BC |

I caught the
bus to Clayton-le-Moors and walked back home along the Leeds and
Liverpool canal. The first thing of note that I saw was the half
way point near Church. It was marked with a post saying Leeds 63
5/8 miles on one side and L'pool 63 5/8 miles on the other. A
metal pole was embedded between the stone sets on the towpath. |
 |
|

I'd now reached Blackburn with new and old bridges. |
| Approaching the
A666 is a series of locks and an interesting iron man riding a

back in the Tockholes area this morning and took the picture on
the right of the Victoria Hotel. I don't know the date of the
one on the left but I guess it'll be around 1900 |

Its always
interesting to compare old photographs of views with how they
look today. The left picture is of the 'new' entrance to St
Stephen's Church on Rock Lane Tockholes. The church in the
background was demolished and rebuild with a smaller version.
The right picture was taken this afternoon |
